What type of saddle pad should I use for stadium?

by admin on July 13, 2010

I have a mini event coming up and for dressage I will use a white dressage pad, for x-country ill use a blue all purpose pad. I know to use white for stadium but should I use my white all purpose square pad or my white fleece saddle shaped pad?

Your white fleece saddle-shaped pad. In cross country, remember you use a breastplate to hold the saddle in place… also you might want it in stadium because sometimes the pad will slide with the saddle, depending if its no-slip or not.
The white pad for dressage is good, and the blue all-purpose for cross country works too.
If you want, you can use both pads. Put the saddle shaped one on top. I do it all the time in events and my saddle never slips.
Try it… I’m not sure how white-on-white will look, but hey, its your saddle pads, and it works to use both, so why not?

Also, the day of the mini event, find out what other people are using. If you see more people going traditional with the square pad, you should go traditional, too.
However, if its all assorted, go with the saddle shaped one.
It’s up to you, it really doesn’t matter! :)
Have fun and good luck! I hope you do well!

Typically, eventers use square pads for all three phases. However, there is no rule that says that you must use a square pad. So, use whichever one you prefer.

Its your choice. Lots of jumpers use a square and mostly hunters and EQ riders use the shaped pads. But it’s your choice.

Personally I would use the square. If you are going to use the shaped pad then you kind of have to go all out on the “classy and refined” look or then you just look odd.

Actually, either. I used an all purpose square pad for dressage and stadium (A/P saddle that’s more dressage style). It just needs to be white. I did a mini event too!!! It was my first show and I got 3rd out of 12 people.I used a square pad for everything.

It doesn’t matter – use whichever pad you want. Your appearance is not judged in eventing, only your performance. You do have to be within the rules for eventing, which you can find on the USEA website.
