What color saddle pad would look good on a dark bay?
by admin on July 27, 2010
i am going to get a saddle pad tomorrow and was just wondering if there are any specific colors that look nice on dark bays. One girl i ride with has a dark bay and uses purple on him. I kind of like it but i dont want to copy her. What do you think? thanx =)
i just want a saddle pad for schooling. Nothing too fancy. Im in hunters so i already have a white show pad. I would just like a fun color

light pink. or if you’re not into the girly, stuff (like me) i prefer lime green. it really gets horse noticed and brings out the natural highlights and sheen in a darker horses coat

That depends on a lot of variables: the style of riding you do, your favorite colors, etc. Most dressage riders use just a simple quilted white or black pad, while riders who compete in three-day-eventing, for example, have “team colors”, and enjoy brighter, more vivid colors, such as pink and purple.
However, for just riding aroud your barn and practice, and if you just want an opinion, on one of the dark bays I ride, I use a dark red pad, and I think that looks very stylish on her. (: Good luck, and happy hunting!

white looks really good on almost all horses. especially bays. you can also try pink, or even lime green if you want something fun! turquoise looks pretty good too.

Red looks really cute on bays.
Also purple is a nice colour, it brings out the brown.

Deep purples, royal blues, emerald greens all look stunning on bays. The jewel tones work well to hightlight their dark coats.

Anything bright and fun would look great. I personally would do a bright teal, royal purple (I know you said you didn’t necessarily want to do that, but it would look great), hot pink, or lime green.
I make custom saddle pads, if you’re interested. http://www.posypony.com
